SOLDIERS' DAY.
To the Editor. Sir,—On Saturday neat lam making an appeal to the public on behalf of the soldiers on active service. The work of my committee and helpers begins on the morning that the men leave New Plymouth station, when they receive theii first gift. They are followed with gifts to the camps, transports, to the trenches, and, on their return, by means of the Soldiers' Club. Many letters received, and personal thanks of men returned from the front are evidence that this branch of patriotic work is highly appreciated and most necessary Not only are these gifts of very great material value to the man in the trench, but they bring to him the home touch and the thought that we are not forgetting the hardships and sacrifices he is making for us who are living here in the greatest comfort, and even luxury. As the work of the Women's Patriotic Committee requires a considerable amount of money to carry it on, I trust that my appeal will 'meet with a generous response, both from town and country friends. Donations and gifts of any kind will be gladly received at the depot, St. Aubyn street, during this week. —I am, etc., ANN BURGESS, Mayoress.
