TABIKL (From Our Own Correspondent) The weather was in her most tempestuous mood on tho night of the 23rd inst., when the social and dance for returned soldiers was held, but that did not deter a big crowd mustering at the Hall to join in welcoming the hoys back. The Patriotic Committee, as usual, spared no pains to ensure a successful evening, and working parties were out the previous night and during the day making the preparations and decorating the hall for the occasion. After full justice had been done to the excellent repast which was served in the supper room (with a children's table on the stage) Mr A. E. Laurence (chairman) in welcoming home the guests of the evening remarked that he had farewelled some of them when they had gone away, which he could not say gave him much enjoyment, but that to extend them a hearty welcome home gave not only himself but all present the greatest pleasure. (Applause). On the call of the chairman hearty cheers were given for the returned, also for the Boys still at the front- The concert programme was -an exceptionally good one, in a great measure due to the items given by the members of Mr Sutherland's orchestra, from Inglewood, and was as • follows: National Anthem; overture, orchestra (Misses B. Kilsby then faced the audience and were received with enthusiastic applause. The first mentioned, on behalf of himself and comrades, thanked the people of Tariki for' the kind welcome they had given them and also the ladies who had sent them such good "buckshee" parcels when they were away.
Dancing concluded a very enjoyable social evening, the music being contributed by Miss E. Rudkin, E. Laurence, Therkleson (2), Mrs D. Jones and Messrs J. Sutherland and J. Stephenson. There was a crowd of friends on the station platform to bid farewell and good luck to Messrs H. Kerr, C. Heal, A. Thompson and R. Conlts, who left for camp by the mail on the 21st inst.
