COMMITTER MFETING. A general meeting of Iho committee of the Tarunaki Metropolitan Agriculturol Society was held on -Saturday, there being present: .Messrs W. B. Grant (in the chair), W. Hall, L. Jackson, J. 11. Rowlands, 0. Colson, A. Lister, X- W. Hill, C. Iloskiu,.C. llohson, If. C Sampiron, ,S. Topliss, T. Luxton, E. H. Pigott, and !•'. llodson. The report of the executive was adopted, and the following were appointted stewards for the Winter Sliov,:--Butter- and cheese classes, local dairy factory managers, and Messrs H. King nnd .1. U. Rowlands: hams and 'mcon, Mr. George Colson; fruits, Messrs 1!. H. PigoU and J. 1!. Hill: garden vegetables. Messrs 11. Fivfhey, A. S. Fro-v; S. Coad. S. Brook*, and. G. PigoU: tield W. Uncock, J. Gibson, .1. Sanders, F. Hodson, G. Long-staff, and L. Sampson; district court?, same as for field roots; farm produce and fanners' classes, Messrs T Luxton, Roy Gilbert, and J. R. Hill; homo industries (cooking, jams, sauces, and pickles), Miss I. Street, Mesdames E. Gilbert and D. Penwarden, Messrs R. H- Pigott. Cyril Bellringer, and W. Pigott; bottled fruits, preserved), fresh vegetables, Messrs W. E. Grant. Q. W. Ruehe, G. Colson, and E. Wells; fancy work and children's classes, Mesdames Crooke, A. Boon, and, Mis; Humphries: Native works,-Mr. J. R Hill, general competitions. Messrs J. R. Hill and J. R. Rowlands; ensilage, Mr. T. Luxton; photography, Messrs C. Hoskin and L. Jackson; illuminating and ticket-writing, painting and sketching, and writing and drawing, local schoolmasters; engineering and mechanical drawing, Mr Skelton; poultry, Messrs H. J. Moverley and W. Jones. Messrs L. Jackson, C. Hoskin. and the secretary were appointed a committee (with ]M>wer to act) to arrange for improved lighting for the Winter Show.
It was resolved to take special steps to protect all exhibits, and, with this end in view, it was decided to instruct all stewards not to allow any exhibits to be removed after the show unless to the actual exhibitor or to anyone bearing his written order. The executive committeo reported that it had decided to support the resolution of the Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society, urging the Government to prohibit the export of white pine; also, to at once plant trees of a. suitable character for the making of cheese cases and butter hoxes. It was resolved to forward this as a remit to the Agricultural Conference. It was also resolved to forward another remiWThat the question of diseases among root crops and the method of combatting them discussed at the conference." Messrs A. Morton, Jas. Burgess, and E. Maxwell agreed to give lectures as suggested on Friday, June 14. Mr. Burgess, instead of giving an address on "Cow-testir-g." will givo an address on "Some ways in which the returns from our cows can be largely increased" Mr. J. W. Deem is also to be asked to give an address. Tt was resolved to ask Mr. H. J. Okey, M.P., to open the show. A meeting of ladies was held, attended by about 30 enthusiasts, at which it was intimated that the committee approved of the proposal of the Ladies' Executive
Committee to undertake the catering at the show. It was also resolved tocarrv en raffles, Mesdames X. W. Hill and W. Jpffery being appointed a committee, with power to add. A committee was also appointed to take charge of the sweets and jumhle stall. Committees wero appointed as follows:—-Buyint', Mesdames Connett, Smellie, and' V. Sampson; executive, Mesdames Connett, Smellie, F. Sampson, Honeyfield, J. HStreet, P. Andrews, W. B." Grant, and C. W Ry.ebc; decorating committee, Misses Connett, Pote, and Street, and Mrs. Morfk.
