STATE AID FOR KINDERGARTENS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dimedin, May. 24. The Hon. Mr. Iliinan was waited on this morning by a deputation from the Free Kindergarten Association pressing tile urgent claims oE the association for financial assistance. The Minister, in a sympathetic reply, said lie luid no funds for present needs, hut indicated that he was bringing before Cabinet a scheme involving the assumption of kindergarten work by the State, or in nn alternative scheme, tc give State support to public kindergartens. FURNITURE TRADE CONFERENCE. Wanganui, May 24. The annual Dominion conference of the Furniture Trades Association of Employers was held yesterday. The president (Mr. Cousins, Auckland), in his address, referred to the pleasant, relations existing in tlie industry, and expressed satisfaction regardiing the terms of the new award. The headquarters of tlie association was fixed at Wanganui for the year. Mr. F. Symes was elected president and Mr. P. Higginbottom sec* retary.
