ESCAPE OF PRISONERS. COUNTRY FOLK CALLOUS. Amsterdam, May 2S. Owing to the tine weather numerous escapes of prisoners recently have taken place, mostly French and occasionally Australian, as the British camp is further from the frontier. Most of the escapees had been working on farms and disappeared into for. ests. The chief difficulty is crossing the rivers, which are swift and cold and must be crossed by swimming, as the bridges are carefully guarded. Escapees narrate that the German country folk no longer exercise vigilance over escaping prisoners, though earliet in the war they would have attempted to lynch them. There is no longer hatred against prisoners.—Aus. X.Z. Cable Association. MARTIAL LAW IN BOHEMIA. Washington, May 23. Advices indicate that martial law has been declared in several districts in Bohemia, owing to the riots of the Czechs and Bohemians.—Au». X.Z. Cable Assoc.
