APRIL LOSSES. ADMIRALTY ANNOUNCEMENT. London, May 22. The Admiralty announce! that 22,70 ft ton* of British tnd 84,393 tons of Allied and neutral merchant shipping was lost in April owing to enemy action and marine risks, compared with 555056 tons of British and 338,821 tons of Allied •hipping for April last year. The Ministry of Shipping announces that, excluding coastwise and crosschannel traffic, the tonnage of steamers of over 800 tons entering and clearing from United Kingdom ports during April vat y>to,3o9.—Aus. N.Z. Cable AssocTHE POLA RAID. PARTICIPATOR'S ACCOUNT. Rome, May 22. Official: A participator in the raid on Pol* harbor relates that the operation was carried ont in the early hours of the morning; the weather was windy. A torpedo-boat containing Lieutenant Commander Pellegrini and his gallant crew fired two torpedoes, 58 minutes after leaving the supporting convoy, which was composed of armed motor launches. When the enemy realised the presence of the torpedo boat a terrific burst of artillery fire broke ont, during which Pellegrini signalled: "I hare torpedoed a •hip and my ship is destroyed. All help Is useless./' A squadron of chasing seaplanes broke down attempted aerial attacks against our convoy. The account states that the hostile Teasel was indubitably struck and sunk, or so damaged that she will be out of action for a considerable time. All the members of the torpedoing party were taken prisoners.
