OMATA FANCY FAIR.
A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. Weather conditions yesterday afternoon undoubtedly interfered with the attendance at the Fancy Fair and .Sale of Work which was held in the Omata Hall 'yesterday, in aid of the hall funds. Nevertheless, the Hall Committee, who have been working hard to organise the function, have everj reason to feel gratified with the way the local people supported them, by attending in large numbers and spending freely. The aim of the large committee appointed—Messrs E. R. Bayley (chairman) J. Honeyfield, Clemow, W. Mace, J. Jury, C. I Shrimpton, W. Quickfall, Frost, E. D. Ausford, C- H. Moore (secretary), and Mesdames C. H. Moore, D. J. Hughes, W. Qfeickfall, I E. R. Bayley, J. Kendall, G. Holmes, D. j Penwarden, Were and C. I- Shrimpton— . was to raise £7O to clear off the overdraft and, probably, to permanently instal the Wizard light, which was temporarily installed for the occasion and fund general favor. Though the amount raised was not available last night, it is certain that a very satisfactory sum was obtained, considering the weatli<v conditions. The district responded well with produce, fancy goods, etc., and thoss had a ready sale, the various stallholders —Mesdames W. Quickfall, A. Mace, and Mr. J. Honeyfield (produce), Mesdames G- Were and D. Penwarden (sweets), Mesdames D- J. Hughes and C. H. Moore (fancy), Misses Penwarden and Frost (bran tub)—all having a busy time. The afternoon tea was a feature of the function, and the energetic ladies in charge —Mesdames J. Honeyfield, E. R. Bayley, Clemow, G. Holmes, E. R. Shrimpton, H. Kendall, J. Kendall, Misses Wells. Warren, George, Moore, and Prior—could not complain of lack of support. Various competitions also added to the funds considerably. Messrs S. Vickers and C. I. Shrimpton had charge of the Bheep guessing, for a sheep donated by Mr. W. G. Richardson (TatarauraSka), whilst there competition* jfer cushions in
'■lir\r«o of "Mis* George, camisoles Mi*-;ed Bayly and Jackson, peggy tags Mrs. Moore. Tiie lastnained was decided during the afternoon, the winners being Mesdames Eraser, Knight, and J. Kendall. There was a attendance at I lie daneo iu the evening, excellent music being provided by Mr-' Pearson, whilst Mr, W. Mace made an efiieient M.C. Though all the committee worked hard, no small mead of praise is due to the chairman (Mr. K. \l. Bavly) and t-lie secretary (Mr. (_'. H. Moore), the latter I proving the right man in the riglit place.
