OPUNAKE. '(From Our Own Corespondent.) At, a meeting of the Seaside Society ou Friday evening a balance sheet of the last fete was submitted showing a credit of £75, which is a very satisfactory position. The society has decided to deposit £BS in tl\e P. O. savings Bank. Mr. Ferguson has been returned unopposed for the Opunake riding on the I'arihaka Road Board. The newlyelected member is a new resident in these parts, having taken up farming here about ten months ago. Sincere regret has been shown to two of our oldest residents (Messrs Affleck and Tratten) whose sons were killed in recent actions in France. On Saturday morning Mr. Marschel Barrie gave a private view of his motion picture The Kid from Timaru," to the scholrftfe boarding at the Opunake Convent. The Patriotic Lfeague is promoting a public welcome to ouf returned soldiers. It is to be a representative gathering. Privates Walter Hiekey and J. Sieve* Wright, who went away with Lord Liverpool's Own, have arrived back from the front. The Town Board held a meeting oh Thursday night to further eonsidet the electric light proposals, which have been advanced another step. The Opunake Football Club has reopened its season.
