NEW PLYMOUTH HARBOR.
IMPROVEMENT SOIIEAIE. The New Plymouth Harhor Board's dredge, the Thomas King, has been a most useful vessel in her day, and has £one good and faithful work for many years, and sho is likely to have a change of occupation. The board contemplates making some alterations to her to render her suitable for carrying loads of stone to he deposited on the line of the new breakwater construction work. With slight alteration she will be well adapted to her new sphere of labor. .The board has in contemplation some eery important improvements to the hartley, and it is understood that certain isals will shortly be submitted to ratepayerg for their approval in the direction of sanctioning new works, ivhich, if carried out, will make of Ne\t Plymouth;a [>oft that will safely accommodate the 'Very- largest vessels'" in all weathers. The board is supported in its progressive ideas hv the professional opinion of Mr. Blair Mason, who is a very eminent engineer, ;w)io ■ says that New Plymouth harbor' can be made the finest artificial harbor in the Dominion. Taranaki has already benefited by the New Plymouth breakwater and harbor, but it will benefit much more in the future, and, fortunately, we have progressive men in the province who can see the advantage of building a commodious and safe harbor.—Eltham Argus. Interviewed by a representative of the Taranaki Daily News, Mr. Newton King, chairman of the Harbor Board, stated that the information was substantially correct.
