KAPONGA SECOND DIVISION LEAGUE.

Sir,—Re '<aass OV' letter to the News, X beg space for a few words in reply. Firstly, he says the meeting was not a representative one, being only attended, by a handful of men nearly ail of whom axe ineligible for service. There he is wTong, for every man, with one exception, who attended that meeting is eligible and. prepared to go into cainip, without any appeals either. The one who is not eligible has been turned down- Secondly, he says: "To suggest that the present rate is adequate—well, I will put my own ease with two children." Well, if he ia called upon to go, his wife will receive £3 3s per week; and, furthermore, will not have him to feed and clothe, and he will get 14s per wf"k for himself. Bow many men at the present time give their wives three guineas a, week? Not many. It has, he suggests, forced the Government to give te a day to the wife and 0s for himself. Where is. the money coming from! He will have to take it out of one pocket and place it in the other, eo where ia the difference? The Government has met all our demands bar this one (Gs per day), and let me tell "Class C* that he wll never receive it, because the Government has not the do it with. Thirdly, he> says ho has not taken any interest tin thp Second Division League before, but will do so in the future. Wliyt Because he is lfka a lot more—been sitting on the rail and lotting the willing horse work, when he slhould have been there to do his share. Not only that, in a, short time "Class C" will be called upon, and he has only just wajcened up to his responsiMlities. Iburthly, he savs: "If the Kaponga tailors of Tpoley street are really interested in the welfare of Second Division, they should immediately call a public meeting."* Why does not he convene the meeting and sign his name In full, and then lie would see the ono or two men who he sn*s carried the resolution and who have not a chance of being ordered to tho trenches? All I can say is tfliat I will be only too pleased to go, not for gain, but for duity, which I think every mail should be prepared to do i n a time sudh as this. So, walco up, "Class 0," and call this meeting, and we will guarantee you a hearing.—l am, etc,, ONE OF THE EXECUTIVE— A, MELVILLE.
