MONEY FOR HEAVY ORDNANCE
NON-USE 01' AMERICAN TROOPS. THE STATEMENT DOUBTED.
Received May 14, 5.5 p.m. "Washington, May 13. The War Department lias asked Congress for six billion dollars for heavy ordnance, the appropriation not being included in the fifteen billion estimates of last week.
Regarding the suggestion that American troops will not be used at present, Lord Reading made a statement that he doubts the accuracy of the announce" ment, which is attributed to the British Cabinet.—Press Association. REGULATING TONNAGE. INTERNATIONAL COMMERCIAL AGREEMENT. Washington, May 13. The War Trade Board has arranged an international commercial agreement between the United States, Britain, France, Belgium, and Italy, whereby exports will only be granted under license, the purpose being to conserve material, labor, and tonnage, and to eliminate all shipments not essential to the war. The new agreement does not effect shipments of British goods to the. colonies.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.
