Stratford, May 14The annual meeting of the Stratford branch of the Taranaki School C'oramittees' Association was held this afternoon. lllie memliers present were:— Messrs F. J. M'Donald (president), T Bocoek (secretary), J. Pattinson, Bird road: P. H. Wellington, J. Phillips, J. Chard and W- V. Hosking, Stanley road; C. H. Lawn, Stratford; and Mr a . C'nthbcrt, Pembroke road. The annual report stated the year had beeen a very successful one, several pchool committees having affiliated, and it was hoped that during t-ho year otliGi committees will do likewise. Strong branches had been formed at Ellham and Hawera. The balance-sheet showed that the year commenced with a debit of 18s Id and closed with a credit of 12s 6d. On t«a motion of Mr. Wellington tho repcrt and balance-sheet were adopted. Election of officers:—President, Mr. F- .T. M'Donald; vice-president, Mr. P. K. Wellington; secretary, Mr. T. A. Uncock: committee.. TC. Bocoek (Bird iw*l), A. Walker (Nfgaere), C. Tf. Lawn (Stratford), and T- Sherson (Mid'hirst). Tn accepting offie.->, Mr. Bocock said the association was working for a worthy cause, and he thought others might bv their attendance lighten the work of th official? ftnd make the meetings more interesting.

CEXT-KAL. Owing to there being an outbreak of diphtheria in the town, some uneasiness lias been occasioned. To-day Dr. Gunn, of'the Education Department, examined the throats of all the dhildren in the infant room, and although there were a number of sore throats, there was only one instance of diphtheria. As a result of her examination the school committee were recommended to thoroughly disinfect the infant class room, land this, I understand, is being done at once.
A man named Josef Zimmerman, farmer, of Ngaere, aged about 4fi years, died under somewhat traffic circumstances yesterday. From what ca n be gathered, the deceased had been ailing for a fortnight or so, and vesterday his condition became so bad'that it" was necessary to secure the services of Dr Cooper, Eltham, who found Zimmerman in an unconscious condition, and ordered his removal to the Stratford hospitalThe ambulance was secured and Zimmerman brought to town. He was alive when the ambulance arrived at the hos hospital gates, but expired before he could he removed to the hospitalAt the Foresters' Hall last nichttlliere was a good attendance at the Oddfjllw Society's euchre party and dance.
