NEW PROGRAMME AT THE EMPIRE TO-NIGHT. ALICE BRADY FEATURE. What war can do to an unfortunate girl refugee is startlingly depicted in "The Maid of Belgium," the World film drama which stars Alice Brady, and is being screened at the Empire to-night. An American couple touring Belgium at the outbreak of the war come upon a half-distracted Belgian girl wandering aimlessly about her pretty village. They adopt her, as they are childless, although the husband longs for children. Then the terrible truth develops—Adoree is going to bo a mother. The desperate woman persuades Adoree to give her the baby, and deceives the husband, for, by a clever ruse, he thinks the child is his own. The conclusion of the drama is most powerful, and contains a general element of surprise. Very beautiful scenic views of Long Island Sound are in this picture, as well as remarkable views of the Germans at their dreadful work in Belgium. The film is a masterpiece of plot-making, and scenes of emotional strength abound. Alice Brady in the principal role is wonderful, ana she is supported by a competent and even cast. The supporting Programme includes "The Girl aiid the &fcg,' a Triangle-Keystone comedy; Pathe's War Gazette; and the 4th series of "History of the War," a I splendid number;

ANITA STEWART AT EVERYBODY'S. ENTHUSIASTIC RECEPTION ON SATURDAY PROM RECORD HOUSE. The popular picture heroine, Miss Anita Stewart, appears in the Greater Vitagraph "Billion's Plot" to great advantage, as was evidenced by the enthusiastic reception of the picture on Saturday by an overflowing audience. Wynn Winthrop (Anita Stewart) was the spoilt dnrling of a millionaire father, so that her brains did not enter into the calculations of the five scheming diplomats who had constructed a far-reaching plot to retrieve the disasters that befel thencountry by ruining America. Henry Winthrop (Franklyn Hanna), financier, through the influence of Varrie (L. Rogers Lytton) a spy, agrees to allow his vast fortune to pass into the hands or foreign powers, believing his own country will gain thereby. Varrie and Marcia Elmore (Julia Swayne Gordon) work on the job together. Wynn Wir.throp (Anita Stewart), working hand in hand with Concord (Robert Gaillard), chief of detectives, obtains a clue, and, following it up, is finally responsible for the round-up of the conspirators and the awakening of her father to a sense of what is right. Adams (Rudolph Cameron), whom she loves and believes to be one of the spies, turns out to be a member of the secret service. The success of this big feature lies not so much in the. plot as in the masterly maimer in which it ha sbeen staged and produced. It's a iilm worth seeing. Supporting this star are "The Girl and the Game," episode 8; .Weekly War Budget, and "Shirt Strategy," a Keystone comedy, all of which will be repeated to-night for the hat time. COMING TO-MORROW. GEORGE WALSH FEATURE. The latest William Fox superfeature will be presented to-morrow (Tuesday) night.
