THE AVIATION REPORT. SUCCESSFUL BOMBING OPERATIONS KIGHT FLIERS BUSY AT OSTEND. Received May 12, 6.5 p.m. London, May 10. Sir Douglas Haig's aviation report state*: Cloudless weather on May 9 enabled a full day's work to be done, and our machines flew all day, reconnoitring and photographingOar bombers displayed great activity along the whole front, and dropped 24 tons of bombs on various places, including the important railway stations at Tournai, Douai, Marcoing, Chaulnes and Qambrii, and billets at Peronne and Chipilly; also the docks at Zeebrugge. Air Rghting was almost continuous, and particularly fierce towards dusk. We brought lows 27 German machines and drove town twelve others. Six British mashines arc missing. Oar night fliers dropped 4J tons of bomb* «n the docks and the entrance to the canal at Ostend; also 3} tons on Peronne, Chaulnes and Bapaume. All •or machines returned.—Ana. and N.Z. A French communique states that Lieuienant Fonck yesterday downed six German biplanes, the first two in ten seconds and tkt other* five minutes later.
