SERVICE HOSTEL.

PROPERTY AT WELLINGTON PURCHASED. Over a year ago a big art union was promoted in Wellington for the purpose of erecting a hostel for crippled soldiers in that city, and at one time a statement appeared that a building on Lambton Quay had been placed under offer at a certain figure for tlie purpose mentioned. It is now announced that a hostel for soldiers and sailors is to be provided, and to that end a property belonging to the Burns Estate, situated on Wellington Terrace, has been purchased for the sum of £BOOO, which will leave a total of £IBBO with which to carry on. The land (which includes a fine residence gardens, and outbuildings) is one of the original town acres, and is a most desirable property. The grounds are well planted with shrubs and trees, and there is ampie room for the inmates of the hostel to move about in pleasant surroundings without leaving the boundaries of the property. The residence will be used as a hostel instead of Langham House (at Newtown), and later on it is hoped that a sufficient sura of money will be raised to erect a new and up-to-date hostel, which, after the war, is intended for the use of incapacitated soldiers and sailors. The Y.M.C.A. lias decided to assist the Hostel Board, too, in raising money for the establishment of workshops in the grounds of the hostel.
