MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

YESTERDAY'S SITTING. (Before Mr. A. Crooke, S.M.) At the New 'Plymouth Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr. A. Crooke, N.M., the following cases were dealt with:— MAINTENANCE CASES. Edward McUinty (Mr. A. IT. Johnstone) applied for an order requiring Wm. Henderson (Mr. J. 11. Quillium) to find sureties in respect for a maintenance order, in favor of his wife and two children, amounting to 30s per week. The claim set out that the order was £9 12s in arrears on April 18, but the amount had been paid into Court yesterday morning. Evidence was given by defendant explaining that the arrears on the date in question had occurred through liis entering into an agreement with liis employers to undertake certain work for them which required, temporarily, all the capital he had at that time. He was quite able and prepared to pay the amount of the order and wished to increase the amount for the children from 7s fld per week each to 10s.

After hearing the evidence the Magistrate declined to make an order. Percy Mason, plumber, Devon St., New Plymouth, ros adjudged the father of an illegitimate^'child, and ordered to pay the sum of 10s per week for its support, as from February 25. BOROUGH BY-LAWS. On the information of the assistant inspector (Mr. E. J. King), Thomas Sampson was fined 10s (costs 7s) for driving a motor car past a tram car standing to pick up passengers, at a speed greater than four miles per hour. Arthur Jones was fined 10s (costs 7s) for driving round thq corner of Egmont and Devon streets at a greater speed than six miles an hour. Wm. A. Bramley, for riding a motor cycle on the footpath was convicted and ordered to pay costs of the prosecution amounting to 7s. Thos. E. Taylor was fined 10s (costs 7s) for having a motor cycle and sidechair standing in King street after dark without lights, aa required by the by-law. WANDERING CATTLE. On the information of the inspector for the Taranaki County Council (Mr. C. Grant), for whom Mr. Quilliam appeared, lines for allowing cattle to wander on the County roads were imposed as follows: James Barber 5s (costs 17s 6d), Herbert Julian 103 (costs 28s), and Herbert Barton 5s (costs 28s).
