MILITARY INSTRUCTORS.
•• 1 i STATEMENT BY MINISTER OF DEFENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The attention of the Minister of Defence has been drawn to the statement made by certain non-commissioned officers who gave evidence before the Defence Expenditure Commission on Tues-' day, to the effect that their services had not been used in the instruction campß, although they had, as they believed, returned from England on duty. The Minister said he had. made enquiries into this matter. When the men came out no instructions were received as regards them, and it was assumed that they were on duty furlough. It was not until May 2 that word was received from Home that the men had been sent out as instructors, and the men—2o in number—were, therefore, being retained as instructors, and a memorandum had been sent to the commission on May 4 clearly setting out the position.
