STRATFORD.

The monthly committee meeting was hel<! on Saturday. It was resolved that the farm manager's salary lie increased to £5 per week as from August 1. The general and cropping report was adopted after being fully discussed. Various fences were recommended, requiring half a ton of wire. It was proposed to sow down next spring in temporary pasture all cultivate! land between the creelc and road, divided as follows:—Eastern half, 3 ncrcs Buda Kale plus grass for summer feeding, 0 acres oats plus grass for hay; balance grass only. The area for nest season's cropping approximates 12 acres now being stumped and cleared adjoining cow yard. Accounts and wages amounting to £43 10s 9d were passed for payment. It was resolved that the cows be milked once daily as from the 4-th inst. The Buildings Committee were instructed to obtain the necessary particulars and estimates re cost of erecting an implement shed and to report at next meeting.

GENERAL. It will be remembered that during the visit of the Minister for Railways to Stratford the need of better alarms at the two crossings was brought up by the Mayor. Tiie latter has now received information from Mr. E. 11, J-liley that larger and louder hell alarms have been secured, and these will be installed at the Stratford station as quickly as possible. The senior cadets meet the High School in the Ru"by game to-morrow, the team to represent the cadets being chosen from the following:—M'Cullough, Dudding. Hall. 'Boyle, Grant, Clifton, Ku«c!, G. The Second Division ballot is hitting some of the business men. Chatting to one who will be in the next call, I asked him if he bad made any effort to dispose of his business, and was told that disposing the business did not concern him. What did was winning the war, and ho guessed Stratford would get along all light without him, and he may he. of use in the trenches. He would step out of a concern he was building up himself, hut, of course, it could not be helped, s« why worry? The Raetihi Relief Fund opened here has closed at £6l S3.
