SEDUCTION CASE.
i MASTERTON MATTER DISPOSED OF. Wellington, May 6. Another chapter in the Masterton seduction case was completed in the- Court of Appeal yesterday, when judgment was delivered in the appeal of Alexander Colquhoun, against John Cross, farmer, father of Brenda Stewart Cross. The respondent was awarded £IOOO damages by a jury at Masterton av gainst Colquhoun, the appellant, who, it was alleged had seduced Cross's daughter. At the trial leave was reserved to Mr T. M. Wilford, who appeared for Colquhoun, to move for a non-suit, on the ground that the girl's evidence was not corroborated, as required by the i Evidence Act. This contention was decided against by the Chief Justice, and the appeal followed. The Judgment, which was read by Mr Justice Sim, referred at considerable length to the evidence, and part;, '-.jly to the actions of Colquhoun. It wh.s lu-lil that the requirements of the statute had been complied with, and the appeal was dismissed, with costs on the highest scale as from a distance.
