AN EXPLANATION.
Sir, —In your report of the military appeals at Hawera is one re C. B. Mills, Midhirst. In it is stated that a. month or two after my son enlisted I cleared out. This is not the case. I did not leave home until December. My son had then been home on final leave and was home again on extended leave when I left. I was not aware that my wife had appealed for extended leave for my son until the night before he came home. This appeal was in opposition to my wishes, as was the latter, which I did not know about until I was summoned as a witness by the Military Appeal Board at Hawera. 1 may add that when I left home I gave them my address and told them to send for me if I was wanted. —I am, etc., H. B. MILLS, Toko, Oth. May.
