URENUI.
(l''rom Our Own Cone-pi.udenl). This popular and sporty sea-side village was all astir on Friday evening bi-l, when the residents, and the settlers in the surrounding districts assembled in very laiye numbers lo bid farewell lo Mr. mid -Mrs. Harry Ells, laic host and hostess of the Urenui hotel. The evening's entertainment took the form of a. Red Cross social and .u\nce. The soloists included Misses dean Clenworfh, Zoo Slicitvd, Cwcu Weston, and Mr. J. Herawaka, the daucs music being supplied by -Jliss Edwin, and extras were played iby Mrs A. Thomson, Miss Skcilon and Miss Murray. The principal item on the programme, however, was the presentation of a beautifully illuminated address to Mr. and Mrs Ellis. Mr. A. 11. Ilaleomho, in most impressive language, spoke of the many sterling qualities of the recipients, qualities that were asserted as an iiiliueiicc for good hoth in private life and in business. In (he latter capacity. 'Mr. Ilalcombo said, as host and hostess of a country hotel. Mr. and Mrs Ellis had won for themselves a good name and an enviable reputation, not only with local residents, but with the travelling public generally, Mrs. Ellis had especially endeared herself to aii. by her kindly ana sympathetic nature, and her energy and willingness in pushing forward any riove in the direction of patriotic work, or work for the good of the district. Mr. Ellis's genial smile and cheery sociable personality would be missed in Urenui far more than words could tell; and the local Rifle Cluib would be at a less to fill his place, while all those assembled were genuinely snrrv to sav farewell: and on their hrlialf he nsl-ed Mr. and Mrs Ellis to accept the illuminated address as a memento of the
good wishes extended to them on their departure from the district, and he trusted they would have a long and happy life in their new home.
Mr. Ellis, in responding, obviously showed, as much as he snoke, the regret !'c and Mrs Ellis fell; in parting from the bi:r circle of friends they had mad". He fell that he could not adequately thank them for the very artistic address presented. It would always occupy a prominent position \n their future home, wherever that may be. As regards the business he had just relinquished, he desired to say that he made a point or never allowing any person to abuse it. Tlolh Mrs Ellis and himself always refrained from catering for one class of person more than another. All guests and (ravellers were treated to the same kind consideration and courtesy, and they welcomed to their house the man who AM not drink, just as cheerfully as tlm man who did: and the large Assemblage around him at this farewell gathering was a token of the success thev had achieved. They took away with them very happv memories of the i.ieas,i,,t life they had lived in the prosperous district of Urenui.
Now. just a word for the children. Let it, be chronicled that the popular and well-known patriotic worker, Mrs ■T Burke n aV e a delightful children's varfv at her veai.lrmce. the guest of honor being little Miss (Hazel M. Ellis, who Mas .presented with a silver-hacked brush ami comb, suitably inscribed. Th? children are sorry to lose Hazel from their midst, for they have not forgotten her last merry Christmas partv. at which she had the real live and genuine Santa Clans to give out the presents.
