NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH. COUNCIL.

.MEETING Of WORKS COMMITTEE. The Works Committee of the New Plymouth Borough Council met last night. Tlie Mayor (Mr. C H. Burgess) presided and there were present: Crs. .T. Cla>;e, J. \Y. Hayden, F. J. Hill, W. F. Short. \V. A. Coliis, R. J. Heare, and 0. \V. Browne. STREETS COMMITTEE'S REPORT. The Streets Sub i conimittee reported as follows:—That the borough engineer be authorised to reform and gravel the footpath on both sides of Cutfield road from Hine street to the railway (estimate £lO 10s). That the borough engineer be authorised to asphalt the following footpaths:—Silver street east side from Devon street to Powderham street ( £lO 8s 6d); Powderham street, north side, from Robe street to Silver street f £2O) : Egmont street, we3t side, from Club to St. Aubyn street, and east side, from Ariki street to St. Aubyn street, and to tar and sand the existing piece between the Ohio and King street (estimate £79); Devon street, from Liardet. street to Gover street (£110); Powderham street, south side, from Robe street to Dawson street (£32). That Mr. L. Langridge be informed that the council cannot see its way to extend the footpath in Dawson street as requested by him. On the motion of Crs. Hayden and Browne, the report was adopted. CORRESPONDENCE. Weston and Weston, on behalf of William Putt, applied for approval of the subdivision of his property at Dartmoor, according to plans submitted. The subdivision was not in accordance with bylaw No. 587, but it was submitted that the council had power to dispense with the full compliance with the building by-laws. The chief difficulty in connection with application, as reported on by the engineer, was that the proposed subdivision" did not provide for a 40ft street frontage to one of the section. Tt was decided to approve the snV division The secretary of the East End Bathin." Resherve wrote asking if the £SO subsidy voted by the council to the committee could be paid over immediatelv in view of several improvements the committee desired to make during the present, year. The application was granted. GENERAL. The Citizens' Band Committee wrote asking ~iat Messrs C C. Ward and P. W. Sandford should be appointed the borough representatives on the Band Committee. On the motion of Crs. Clarke and Browne, the appointments were confirmed. The librarian of the Carnegie library (Miss M. G Free) applied for an increase of £52 per annum in her salary. On the motion of Crs. Hayden and Short, an increase of £26 per annum was authorised.

G. W. Browne, on behalf of the Western Park Board, wrote intimating that a public meeting of residents had elected the following as members of the board:—Messrs T. Petty, G. Corney, W. R. Davies, and J. Bridgeban. The appointments were approved.
