THE PROBLEM OF REPATRIATION. By Telegraph.—iPresa Association. Wellington, Last Night. Sir James Allen remarked to-day that the subject of repatriation was receiving much attention. The Discharged Soldiers' Information Department was gathering helpful information, and other work was being done in the hope that satisfactory plana would be evolved for the reabsorption of discharged soldiers. CUSTOMS REVENUE. Wellington, Last Night. The Minister of Customs states that the Customs revenue collected in the Dominion in April was £305,105, the excise beer duty £23,083. The figures for April, 1917, were £250,185 and £15,491! respectively. TEACHERS' SALARIES. Wellington, Last Night. The Minister of Education has beer: much exercised lately by the question of increases in teachers' salaries in the lower grades. Apart from the matter of an increase in relation to the ever-rising cost; of living there was need of inducement to young persons to enter the profession, in which there was now an acute shortage The Hon. Mr. Hanan submitted recommendations to Cabinet, and the Government has given its approval of increases to probationers and training college students. The question of improvements in salaries and allowances for pupil teachers is now under the Minister's consideration.
