DISTRICT NEWS.

•* BAHOTU. The weather was all that could be desired for Anzae Day. The township was quite lively, with so many about. The hall waa well tilled for the united service, which commenced by the sing'"g of the National Authem. Mr. T. P. Hughson, sen., was chairman, and the Revs. King and Lilley and Messrs Gibson and l'arker assisted with the service, while the Kev. Adderibroke gave the address. Hymns were sung as follow: "0 God, Our Help in Ages Past," Life is Here," "Eternal Father," Jesus, Lover of My Soul," 'Nearer, My God, to Thee" Mr. T. Hughson, jun., kindly lent his organ, at which Mrs. liughson presided- At the conclusion, medals, suitably inscribed, in memory of our fallen boys—viz., Privates W. J. Looney, F. Billing, W. Gibson, and J. Morrow, were presented by Mr. Addinbrooke to the parents of the bravo lads who have given their lives for their country. Mr. and Mrs. Gibson awl Mrs. S. A. Morrow were 'present, but Mr. Looney was unable to come on account of illness, so Miss D. Loonev, his niece, took his place, as did Mr. Louis Billing for his father, who has just received word of the loss of another son, and waa not present. Deep sympathy is felt for Mr. Billing and all tho relations in this great loss. A collection was taken up during the service in aid of the soldiers farewelling fund, etc. We are glad to see Mr. A. White home again from the hospital His two small boys are still there and progressing favorably. Miss Wilcox is also expected home, although she suffered with only a bad throat. There seems a good deal of sickness in the district at present. The shooting season lias encouraged a crowd of our local sports to journey to the Whangarei- district—viz., Messrs A. Phillips, Groom, B. Dawson, and C. Oarr, also Mr. .1. Phillips, of Urenui. It is to bo hoped they get good weather, and good bags also. Milk is down very low at the factory. A great many suppliers have had to start, milking once a day. The annual meeting of the hall subscribers was held on Saturday evening in the supper Toom. Great interest was taken, there being a large number of ladies present. The balance-sheet showed , ;l credit of about £f>o, and was adoptedA hearty vote of thanks was tendered to the outgoing committee and the auditor.
