ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent.l Klthani, April 30. There was a lair i mount of interest taken in the annual meeting of householders held last evening, the chairman, Mr. A. H. Andrews, presiding. The ba-lance-sheet and report disclosed a very healthy state of affairs, the only cause of regrel being the falling-nil' of attendance of pupils at the secondary school. The Hon. \V. Carncross asked how many extra pupils were required to keep the secondary school going, and wns.to!d live. Some householders thought it unfortunate that parents should send their cliil•dren to Stratford and Haivern. and in this connection i! was mentioned that one of the committee was sending a child out of town for education. It was pointed out that the facilities for education here were quite equal to other towns, and regret was expressed that through the action of some parents the whole school was likely to suffer. The Mayor (Mr. T. B. Crump) congratulated the committee on the excellent results secured during the year, whilst our member of Parliament. Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, also expressed himself forcibly on the value of the secondary school as being of benefit to the town. After a little further discussion the report was carried, on the motion of the chairman. Messrs. Andrews (chairman), Hooker and Papps (secretary) declined renomination, and the new committee is as follows: Messrs I. .1. Bridger (chairman). T. 11. Hurrell, W. Davis. H. Moss (secretary), T. Urry, A. Lee, W. Carbis, W. Barker, and j. Skipper.
