HOCKEY.
The first practice of the season took place at the Girls' High' School on Saturday afternoon, when a team of Old Girls was defeated by a combined team of Present and Old Girls, by ten goals to eight. It was rather a patchy exhibition of hockey, both sides showing a want of combination and little knowledge of the finer points of the game, but no doubt this will be remedied as the season advances. The Old Girls' Club should be able to give good account of themselves in the shield fixtures, as several members of the old Whakatika Club have joined them, as well as most of last year's school team. It is hoped to play a friendly match shortly with the Stratford Ladies' Club. The Old Girls' secretary will be glad to hear from other old girls who would like to join the club.
