IRELAND.
i A CARDINAL'S ACTION. QUESTIONED. London, April 26. In the House of Commons, Mr. Newman called attention to the fact that a member of the Sacred College was pledged to oppose conscription in Ireland. He asked whether the attention of the Vatican had been drawn to the fact in view of the latter's neutrality. Mr. Balfour said he could hardly believe a member of the Sacred College would oppose the law when it was enforced. He bad not communicated with the Vatican, assuming it was kept fully informed.
