ALLEGED BURGLARY.
AN OKATO STORK ENTEREDTHREE MEN AJRRESTEO. Some excitement was caimed at Okato during the early hours of Sunday morning, when three men were arrested on a charge of alleged breaking and entering and theft from Greenway Bros.' store. A watch was being kept on the shop during Saturday night by Mr. D. Greenway and one of his employees, named Mulholland. Early in the morning the watchers heard one of the doors of the premises being tried, and, looking out, it is said they saw three men enter the storeroom in the backyard, in which benzine was stored. The men on watch came out into the yard, and the three men were alleged to have been seen leaving the building, each carrying a case. When they realised that they \vere seen the men made off in an attempt to escape. An exciting chase ensued, in which, it is said, some revolver shots were fired. One man became entangled in a wire fence and was caught by Mullholland. Greenway pursued and" eventually secured the second man, but the third man, in the meantime, escaped. The men were secured in a room at the back of the shop, and Constable O'Neill, of Rahotu, was sent for, and on arrival arrested the two men • Albert Leigh Corbett and Frederick W. Roebuck. In consequence of information given, Constable O'Neill proceeded to the residence of Frederick T. McGregor, and also arrested him in connection with the alleged offence. The three men were brought into New Plymouth at about half-past 5 yesterday morning, and they will appear at that court at 10.30 to-day.
