BRITISH GAIN GROUND. ENEMY ASSAULTS. SEVERE STRUGGLE AT HANGARD. London, April 2(i. The Germans developed an intense gas barrage on the Flanders front and heavy infantry assaults have begun, 'i'he Britisli regained ground round Villers-Bretonneux. Another report says that the Germans have captured Hangard-en-Santerre. British tanks at Villcrs-Bretonneuv drove the German tanks oil' .the field. The German infantry, which the tanks were supporting, were thus exposed and flung back. The latest reports state that the British are making steady progress. Another simultaneous report says the Germans, by costly sacrifices, captured liangard, lost it, and then re-took it.
