PERSONAL.
Lieut. P. Meredith, who is well know, in Hawera, where he was at one time 01; the staff of the Hawera Star, has returned to New Zealand after three years spent on active service. He was invalide£ home after a severe bout of illness. Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Weston, of Kaimata, Inglewood, have just received wore that their third son, Roland Weston, was admitted to hospital in France between April 12 and 16, suffering from gunshot wounds in the right arm and buttock. Private Roland (Roly) Weston was well known in New Plymouth, having only just served his time in Messrs. Duncan and Davies' nursery. ■ Mr. D. Penman, local manager for the Northern Steamship Company, returned to New Plymouth yesterday. Mr. J. Shallcross, who has been in charge of the office during Mr. Penman's absence, returned to Onehunga by the Rarawa last night. In the latest hospital report the following Taranaki names appear: —Still dangerously ill, slightly improved: T. S. Cox (Patea). Removed from seriously ill list: Temporary-Sergeant J. Adlam (Waitara). Not severe cases: J. Carmichael (Waitara), and L. H, Wiley (Eltham).
