DISTRICT NEWS.
OMATA.' (From Our Own Correspondent)'; The Omata Sewing Guild, having decided (o i id a series of assemblies during the winter months, has ar. ranged for the first dance to take place on Friday. 2tith April. 'Die proceeds are to be devoted to a purpose which must appeal to the most apathetic—the St. Dunstan's Home for Blinded Soldiers. Much interest is being shown in the event by the residents of Omata, Spotswood, and Hurford Road, ami, given a, line night, the social should prove a financial, as well as a social success. The promoters ask all to do their utmost to demonstrate once again that Omata district is well lo the fore when a worthy object is in view. Even if the weather should prove inclement, those who cannot attend the dance are requested to bear in mind that t'lm smallest donation will be gratefully received by any memoer of the guir'i* for the Blind Soldiers. Recollect that each and every one of us is indebted lar more than we can ever hope to repay to (hose men who have lost their sight, (iobling foj us who have not been called to leave our peaceful homes, and it is our bounden duty to do what we can towards helping them ;iow "they need our assistance. TARIKL (From Our Own Correspondent). Tn these iimes local news sinks into insignificance, our interest being centred on (he stupendous fighting at the front and the doings and condition of our boys out there. Mr. Hoskin, in his official position as Postmaster, has received a letter from the secretary of (he Xcw Plymouth Hospital Board, to thank the church people of St. Philip's for the gift of vegetables and fruit, sent after the Harvest and Thanksgiving service, and saying that such donations are much appreciated by the Board, staff, and patients. The "Pithon," of whose approach we were recently warned by Mr. Wragge, has not yet landed us. Fitlier lie's done a premature burst or gone well over. Still, the old proverb holds good, "Its an ill wind, etc.," and some of o,ir more thoughtful boys have taken Mr. Wragge's excellent and gathered in the produce of several local orchards, rather than chance the jolly old "Pillion" scoring them. I am glad to hear that a well-known and popular resident, who a short time: -back sustained somewhat serious injmios in alighting from a car which was in motion, has quite recovered. CARDIFF. (From Our Own Correspondent). A considerable decrease, in the milk yield lias greatly lessened the present output from the local factory. A start has hern made with the erection of the new factory, a number of men being now engaged in levelling the site for the new building. Much surprise was f-xpcriencijd by the shareholders of this facforv when (hey heard (hat (he .■CS.nnO estimate was almost doubled by the lowest tenders received. Owing to this, only p. portion or the building can be built for the money. This evening (Wednesday) a further meeting of ihe shareholders will he held to discuss (he rebuilding question as well as other business matters. On Friday evening. 20th inct.. a welcome home social will be tendered to Private L. Marciiant. Former arrangements were cancelled owing to the latter's removal to (be hospital on his arrival in Xew Zealand. Mr. IT. Horn and family, latß 01,o 1 , Taratn, ore the latest, additions to flic district, having recently purchased Mr. HuzzifPs farms on the Climie Road. It is to be hoped that a large number of residents will be present at the election nf (he school committee on Monday evening, as considerable interest is being taken in education matters throughout the Dominion.
