Inspector J. Hendrey, of the Wangsuu police district, is at present in New Plymouth. Mr. R, Coleman, Gill Street, New Plymouth, has been advised that Priv&te C. R. A, Liversedge, wlio has arrived in Hawera to take charge of the Hawera Methodist church, was, with Mrs Liversedge, tendered a welcome social in the Wesley Hall on Tuesday evening. In the latest hospital report published the following Taranaki names appear: Seriously ill, Lance-corporal J. H. Bower. Severe case, B. C. Clifford (Kakaramea). severe cases: Bombardier W. L. F Porter (Tariki), S. A. Wells (New Plymouth). 3 Mr. R. Masters, chairman of the Taranaki Education Board, leaves for Wellington this morning, and while there will interview the Education Department on * arious matters, including the proposed new schools at Vogeltown and Normanby, also additions at the Technical College and at Auroa. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Harris, of Waihi Road, Hawera, have received the distressing advice that their son, Private Hubert Harris, was killed in action "somewhere in Prance" on April 5. Private Harris was very keen to serve his country, and after being "turned down" several times, finally succeeded in passing the medical test. He enlisted with Lord Liverpool's Own, and had been on active service for two aud a half years. He was unmarried and was 26 years of ageAdvice has been received of the death in action on the Western front of Captain Dennis CVRorko, M.C., aged twen-ty-two, at one time a well-known New Zealand sportsman. Captain O'Rorke ,was born in New Zealand, and joined ,the 00 th Rifles practically straight from .school at Home. His mother is a member of the Rhodes family of , Canterbury. Deceased was a grandson of the late Maurice O'Rorke.
