TRAGEDY OFF WANGANUI.
A LAUNCH FOUNDERS, THREE LIVES LOST, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. The oil laundh Monarch foundered in the roadstead this morning, with the re • suit that three men wer'e drowned. Th names of two of the men are Patrick Beglcy and Oswald Lewis- The identity of tho third mail has not been established. »»The launch left the river on : Tuesday afternoon on a fishing trip, and during the night the weather; became boisterous. Early this ■ morning the launch was noticed making for port. A heavy sea was running at the time When near the breakwater the launc! was seen to suddenly tilt, bow in the air, and disappear Unfortunately, the persons wlio saw the launch in difficulties did Hot report this matter at the time, with the result, that the harbor officials were unaware of the accident until later i a the day, when a mast and a portion of the launch's fittings were washed ashore The police are making a. search of the south beach for the bodies.
