SUKPLUS OF SUGAR. Australian Cable Association. Melbourne. April 23. It is anticipated, that when the crushing of the new crop commences in June there wiil is *, surplus of augar in Australia from the previous crop of 30,000 tons, to which will be added 60,000 tons from tie new crop, making £3,000,000 worth of sugar the Commonwealth Government will hold in June, 19 LO, for which there is no apparent profitable, market open. Melbourne, April 23. The Eight-hour Day celebration was I successful, but there was a marked falling off in the members taking part in the procession. SENSATJONAL STATEMENTS BY A BANKRUPT. Sydney, April 23. Remarkable stefcementa were made in the Bankruptcy Court by Albert Nash, a bankrupt. He gave evidence in connection with the expenditure of a certain sum that, owing to Customs investigations regarding the gToss price and discounts deducted on Walker and Hall's goods, witness desiriilg to plac:tte the Customs Department, went to Melbourne and entertained Mr. Tudor, then Minister of Customs, at luncheon several times and presented Mr. Tudor's wife, through hhn, with certain jewellery, although Mr. Tudor was qpte innocent as to the reasons of these manipulations. Witness knew Mr. Tudor through wittieae hating been formerly president of the New South Wales Football League. Nash gave evidence that tlie New Zon land Government agent interviewed him regarding the gross price of the goods and as to whether he was ereditng unfair prices and discounts. Mr. Tudor, interviewed, said that when the House met to-morrow he would make a full statement on the matter.-.
