SOLDIER GASHES HIS FINGERS. Wellington, April 23. Yesterday reorning a soldier, Patrick Larry, walked into a warehouse and purchased an axe, with whin's he proceeded to heck at his right hand. The police were immediately sent for, but as the man was in a condition requiring medical attention, he was handed over to the military authorities, who ?ent him to the Victoria Warot in the Hospital. Examination showed that the first two fingers were badly gashed, but It is hoped iti save both. Larry is about 30, a native of Ireland. He came from Auckland. ' The act was evidently premeditated, as subsequently ho calmly discussed the matter with the police. His action is an offence under the military regulations.
