Hasluek wrote, asking th« council to pass a similar resolution to that passed on .September 'i, respecting lot 2 of subdivision 10 of part Town Belt. A, with frontage of 34ft 3in to I X-line street- The resolution referred to was to the effect that the council being satisfied that a full compliance with tlnj provisions of bylaw r>S7 (3) would* be attended with loss and inconvenience to the owners, without a corresponding benefit to the public, Mrs. V. A. M. A. Hnsluck 'be permission to sell lot 3 of subdivision 10 of part Town Belt A, having a frontage of 37ft to T-Imp, street, and dispenses with the provision requiring such frontage to be not leas than 40ft. On the- motion of the Ma yor, seconded, by Cr, Browne, iv was decided to grant the application. C. E. Baker wrote, regarding the neglected state of Bulteel street, wlftcli had, neither properly-formed fooapaths, kerbing, 'or channelling. Tile letter aliened that other streets in less central localities had had more done to them than Bulteel street, which was one of the chief thoroughfares to the hospital. The Mayor stated the work had been vised to that effect.. The engineer authorised, and Mr, Baker 'had been adstated that that street was in the next block in which kerbing and channelling was to be undertaken. L. Langridge wrote to ask if the connci! would extend the footpath from Lee's store, Dawson street, down to and along his property at the junction of Dawson street and Mill road. —Trie en* gineer reported that to do the work as it should be done would cost about £SO or £{lo, and he recommended that tl», streets sub-committee should inspect the locality before anything was done in the matter. It was decided to refer the questio.l. to the Streets Committee. EXCHANGE OF LAND. The secretary of the' New Plymouth Harbor Board wrote in reference to the exchange of land between the board and the council, that the board approve the principle of the exchange, provided values could be Arranged, and stated the board had set up a committee to confer with representatives of the council on the matter. A meeting of the joint committees is to 'be held to-morrow. STREETS COMMITTEES' REPORT. The Streets Sub-committee reported recommending t'lmt the engineer be authorised to kerb and channel the footpath on the north side of Leach street, from Liardet street for a length of'two cnains. They also reported that a conference had .tieeiMbeld with representatives of the local licensed taxi-drivers, nni! it. was recommended that certain amendments be made in the by-laws providing for increased 'charges for hire.—The report was adopted. GENERAL. Acknowledgment?, were received from Mr. J. E. Wilson, in reply to the council's congratulations on ( liu magisterial appointment, and from the local head centre of the Royal Life-saving Society for a subsidy of £ls towards . their work. ' The secretary of the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable 'Aid Board wrote respecting the amounts du& for l'ospital maintenance ty t'ho various contributing bodies, the Borough' Council contribution (£1522) being practically the same as for last year. Licenses were granted to the Taranaki AoiuKcments, Ltd., for Everybody's, and the Empire Theatres. A contract was let to II R. Garnham 'or attention to tlit town clock at the Post Office ioij a period of 12 months. On the motion of Crs. Hill and Griffiths, the council approved the principle )f the erection of public underground conveniences in the centre of Brougham street, exact location to be left to ;lie engineer to determine.
