A Johannesburg paper reports the engagement of Captain Roderick Antill, Ist Iv.AR., son of Mr. Henry Antill, of Hawke's ,Bay, to Miss Dorothy Macrae. Captain Antill was on a .visit, from Xyassaland, where ho had for the last three years been serving with the forces under General Northey, D.S.O. «r * * »
Dulcie Deamer (Mrs. Albert Goldie), the well-known New Zealajnd authoress, and formerly a resident of Feathetston, is reported to have been very successful wth her literary work in the United States. A novel of hers has been featured in recent, issues of the All-Story Magazine, published by the Munsey Co., of New York. This work deals with Mexico at the time of the conquest, and is entitled "The Valley of Bleeding Hearts." She lias scored a success in "New York with her stories of the Stone Age, another series of winch is about to be published. Miss Deamer has also arranged for the publication of a novel entitled "Revelation," which is said to he a remarkable pen-picture of Jerusalem at the time of Christ, With her husband she is now settled in I>os Angeles, where she adds to her litprary activities by writing scenarios for*"the "movies."
GOLDEN WEDDING. Last Monday Mr. and Mrs. W. IX Webster celebrated their golden wedding, but on account of the circumstances the celebrations were of a very nuiet nature, only near relations and dear friends being present at the function. which was held at their home. The main attraction of the breakfast table was t'le three tier wedding cake, made l v Miss Winifred Webster, the floral decorations being masses of violets, finished with violet ribbon streamers falling from the ceiling, and caught in ribboned loops to the four corners of the table. Musical items were rendered by Miss Loatham, Mrs. Alf. Webster, and Mr. C. Webster. Mrs. W. D. Webster looked very (harming in a rich black silk costum", '.vith a lovely white lace shoulder scarf.
