SCHOOL COMMITTER Stratford, April IS. Mr. J. W Boon (chairman) presided at the last meeting of the Stratford School Committee. Mr. Tyrcr, headmaster, in his monthly report stated that there was an attendance of 737 out of a roll register y» 807 when the school was inspected oy Inspectors Morton and Ballantyne, and their report would be laid before the committee later on. There were ISO pupils enrolled in the secondary department- He expressed appreciation at the assistance rendered by Mesdames Dyson end 0. Jones in the teaching classes.— Received.
Mr H. Kivell (caretaker) applied for increase in salary. His duties entailed longer hours, besides an increase in the cost 01 living.—After a little dscussion it was decided the request could not be entertained. A request by the Fields Inspector, W. Karris, to have blackberries removed from the school section, was left to the chairman to arrange for labor. Miss Pearcp having accepted an appointment at Xew Plymouth, her resignation as a teacher was accepted with regret. The Education Board notified the appointment of Mrs. Dyson (temporary) and Misses A. R. Gleeson (4th assistant) and I. Taylor (7th assistant).
Mr. Hopkins' tender for the supply ot stationery was accepted. This being the. last meeting ol the committee as at present constituted. several members made eulogistic remarks regarding the able and painstaking manner in which Mr. Boon bad carried out the duties of chairman. GENERAL. Captain and Mrs. Campion are now away attending th? annual conference of officers, which this year is being held in several centres to minimise cost of travelling, etc. Messrs C. D. Sole and R. Jf. Cameron are definitely out for the vacant seat on the borough council Both have had pre-/ vious experience at the council table, and both would be desirable members. Mr- Ford bad serious thoughts of tryinj his luck, but has decided now to stand down and await the elections next April, when the present council goes out of office. Captain TV. 11. Hnwkms i<> at present in Stratford. He is loo\[ng very well, and. excepting a little trouble to hi* knee, says he is feeling very fit. lie, with Captain J. B. ITine and other soldiers, will be the guests of the Club at a social function this (Thursday) evening.
