( .'" • THE EMPTRfI. t _____ ;: FRANCIS X BUSHMAN AND BEVERLY BAYNE M "THE ADOPTED SON," On the new programme at the Empire this evening the pride of placo will be held by "The Adopted Son," a six-part Metro play that brings Frijacis X. Bushman and Beverly Bayne into ken again. The adopted son of the story is a gunfighter, known to fame as "Two-gun Carter." Ue loves a girl named Marian K.'mmvor, and thus introduces himself into a feud between this family and the AleUnes. Marian becomes his bride, and then the opposing family abducts her. Carter stops out after her and them, and, working on the theory that blood wipes out blood, he lias several surprising adventures, hut the whole feud comes to a sudden end in a queer way. The supporting pictures include the" seventh epis<v|« „f "Peg o' the Ring." A special item of the programme is the musical selections by Miss Doris George and Mr. Frank Symes.
EVERYBODY'S. 'THE MOTHER OS DARTMOOR." STARRING ELIZABETH RISDON. Great novels picturised are always successes, and "The Mother of Dartmoor," showing at Everybody's to-ni?ht and to-morrow, is no exception. It" is the work of the London Film Company, and follows Eden Philpott's great book exactly. Elizabeth Risdon is the star, and her acting ia almost in the region of the miraculous. From a young and pretty girl, she transforms herself into a dainty and charming old woman. The supporting east is also strong, there being not one weak piece of work throughout. The' headstrong son, the worthless woman, the heroine, and all the minor parts are types that are true tS" the life. The story is the wonderful one of mother love, and concerns the clever schemes of the mother of a wilful youth to save him from the 'perils of youthand majco him a worthy man, ']*" schemes are full of ripe cleverness, and motherly wisdom, and the" story is full of surprises. The dramatic climax occurs when the worthless woman whom the mother fears so much, gets sick of her husband, and exercises her old fascination on the boy. A runaway match is planned and is only thwarted at the last moment by the keen wits of the "mother."
