STATEMENT BY MINISTER. Wellington, April 1C Interviewed to-day regarding tlic loan Sir Joseph Ward said that in viewv of the compulsory clauses provided ror under the, Finance Act, lie felt it was only fair to give suflicicnt time to those who had not subscribed to have, their applications put in, and reasonable Mie would be given for that purpose. Applications would continue to be received by all banks and post offices throughout the country, as-well as by the Treasury. He was not in a position at present to make a statement regarding the total subscribed, but could say it was a very good response- He would make a full statement about the matter in the course of a day or two when figures were fully compiled.
