PERSONAL.

At yesterday's meeting of the Taranaki Hospital Board Mr. M. Fraser ,was re-elected chairman. Mrs. J. Grant, of Vivian street, New Plymouth, was advised yesterday that her son A. E. Grant, was killed in action on March 27. Mr. J. R Wilson has received word that his first duty will be to relieve Mr.. Wyvem Wilson, S.M., whose district includes the courts of Onehunga, Dargaville, I'ukekohe, etc. Mr. Wilson will leave New Plymouth to take up his new duties in two or three weeks. In the latest hospital report the names of H. L. Taylor (Waitara) and C. Till (Stratford) appear among the severe cases. Mr. J. West has received advice that his son, Private V. 0. West, has been admitted to hospital suffering from fever, a serious case. Mr. F. Grayling has been advised, that his son, F. S. Grayling, has been admitted to hospital in England suffering from a gunshot wound in the right shoulder. ■-.,„ -, i Mr. John Knowles has been notified What his son George, who left with tSe 18th Reinforcements, received a gunshot wound in the thigh on March 27* and was admitted to hospital in Eng&nTt"on April 8. ...

Among military appointments and promotions, contained in the last Gazette, there appears the name of Sergeant G. H. Liardet, promoted second lieutenant as from December 19. He is the second son of Mr. H. K Liardet, formerly of Stratford, whose elder son, Lieutenant L M. Liardet, died of wounds in the Somme operations in 1016. Mr. J. L. Perry received advice that his son Mward was killed in action ih France on March 30. He went away with the 13th Reinforcements, and was in charge of a machine-gun section. Before enlisting he was farming at Omona, and he leaves a widow and one child.

Mr T. K. Hughes, of the Grand Central, returned to New Plymouth on Tuesday night after a month's holiday in the South Island, in the course of which he paid a most enjoyable visit to the Otago lakes district. Mr. Hughes was accompanied by his oldest son, Mr. W. ft. Hughes, of Christclmrch,' who is spending a short holiday with his parents. On Saturday last the si aft' of the New Plymouth Borough Council gathered to farewell Mr. Russell Matthews, who is leaving shortly to join the 41st Keinforcements. Mr. Matthews has been in the employment of the Borough Council's engineer's office for over four years. He was made the recipient of a wristlet illuminated watch.

In a list of soldiers returning to New Zealand this month the name of L. i. Birch (New Plymouth) is. given. The following Taranaki names appear in a draft due back in the Dominion next month:—R, Brogden (Hawera), J. Candy, W. Turner and H. Sparks (Kaponga),, P. J. Evans (Otakeho), W. W. Gibb and B. S. Tavlor (Eltham). L. Hartley (New Plymouth), G. 'W. Kilsby (Tariki), C. H. Larsen and E. C. Smith (Uruti), L. J. Morris (Oakura), L. J. Sharrock (Stratford). The name of Staff-Nurse M. E. Afifick (Opunake) also appears in the list.

A quiet wedding took plaeo at New Plymouth yesterday, when Mr. Sidney Pitt, of Stratford, was united in matrimony to Miss Alice Margaret Healy, who for some six years was on the nursing staff of the Stratford District Hospital, latterly as sister and Acting-Matron, in which "position she gained high esteem. The ceremony, at which Only immediaterelatives were present, was performed at the residence of the bride's father, Mr. William Healy, and after the usual wedding breakfast, Mr. and Mrs. Pitt left for the south, carrying with them many hearty good wishes for future happiness. After a sojourn in the Cold Lakes District, Mr. and Mrs. Pitt return o Stratford, where they intend residing.—-Post.
