RESOLUTIONS BEFORE BOROUGH COUNCIL. At last night's meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council, a letter was received from the Napier Patriotic Society, enclosing copies of resolutions in reference to the question of employment in the Government service of persons' of alien blood. The Mayor said he could not support any such resolutions unless submitted at a public meeting of citizens of New Plymouth. The resolutions dime not from the Napier Borough Council, liut from the Patriotic Society, who had 110 official standing so far as the Council was concerned. He did not think, if the six councillors present passed such reI solution they could be claimed to represent .the views of the citizens of New Plymouth. Cr. Clarke said that was probably tRe case, but he believed !)!) per cent, of them ivould agree with the resolutions.. Cr. Browne said the resolutions were too far-reaching. They would do grave injustice to some Germans who were perfectly loyal British subjects. He knew of cases locally where children of parents who were Germans had fought side by side with our men and some of them had given their lives for the Empire. Cr. Collis supported the Mayor.
It was finally agreed that the lei ter J>e received. .
