DISTRICT NEWS.

KAFUNI. (From Our Own Correspondent). Gunner McLeod and Trooper O'Dowd were farcwelled in the Kapuni Hall last Friday evening, by a large gathering, many being present fro* Manaia and all round. This was ! Gunner McLeod's second farewell, ho having been through the war with the Main Body. Dancing was indulged in for the evening, excellent music being supplied by Miss Gardiner, whilst extras were given by Mrs. Benton and Misses Eliason and Spiers. Much appreciated song 6 were rendered by Mrs. McCook and Mr. Berry. As usual the ladies provided a first-class supper Mr Leslie delivered a patriotic speech, making presentations to each soldier, wishing them God-speed and a safe return. Gunner McLeod suitably responded There were also several other "laddies in khaki" present which added to the evening's pleasure.

AUROA. On Easter Monday evening Privates A. Dunn, D. Macintosh, and C. Langlands received a farewell by one of the largest assemblages that has been seen in the Auroa Hall. There was hardly room for dancing. Mr- Pickering supplied good dance music and Mr. D. Barlow made a iiret-clasa M.C Mr. Buxton as chairman, in a fine, loyal speech, made presentations to each recruit who was welcomed with loud cheers- Each recipient suitably replied. Private A. Dunn is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Dunn, jwho have been very well and favorably known throughout Taranaki for many years. All heartily sang "For They Are Jolly Good Fellows" and the National Anthem. A good supper was provided by the Auroa ladies. It was with deep regret that Auroa learned of the sad death of Private Reg. Johnstone, only son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Johnstone.
