AGRICULTURAL INSTRUCTION.

To the Editor. Sir,—l am pleased "Tahi Hereni" lias drawn attention to the laxity shown re above. As a shareholder in the Maketawa Dairy Company and an out and out supporter of the idea ol agricultural instruction, 1 also wish to protest against the way things are drifting in regard to the matter and quite endorse the re- ] marks of the above quoted writer. There is not enough consideration shown the farmer by the authorities in connection with this instruction business The idea lias permeated many minds that all that is wanted from them is their contribution with nothing commensurate with such in return At first we had the instructors coming amongst us at a centre. Xow it is we who have to go to the instructor. There's no time to be lost on the farm now-a-days- Being/in the creamery area of the Maketawa district (Durham road) the school was I used for nightly lectures, and I do not i think any official could grumble at the I "roll up'' on each occasion, and 1 know | good lias ensued from such talks That I Ims been s'lielved for the system of ' tramping over this farm or ihe otter I which means daytime work, and I maintain the former system is the best with probably an open air demonstration of tin; lecture work occasionally There should not be a'month missed, but as it is—well, I need not elaborate. Those interested are simply disgusted, and unless a radical alteration is quickly brought about I'm afraid many hitherto strong supporters will be ranged on the oilier side "Verbum sat sapienti"—l am, etc., JOE. B. SIMPSON. Durham road.
