METHODIST CHURCH.
NEW PLYMOUTH CIRCUIT QUAR. TERLY MEETING.
The quarterly meeting of the New Plymouth Methodist Circuit was held at the Fitzroy church last night. The Rev. H. L. Richards presided, and there were about 20 officials present. The membership returns were reported to be the same as the previous quarter. The balance sheet showed a balance in hand of £2O. i On the recommendation of the finance committee, it was decided to increase the salary of the second minister of the circuit. Satisfactory reports were made of the work amongst the young people at St. Aubyn and Fitzroy. It was decided to make the annual home mission collections throughout the circuit during the current quarter. An executive committee, consisting of the circuit ministers and Messrs. C. E. Bcllringer, P. White, C. Carter, W. Ambury, R. Pepperill and W. H. Pankhurst was elected for the purpose of organising the annual foreign mission effort, and to make all the arrangements in connection with the forthcoming visit to the circuit of the Rev. J. W. Burton, 8.A., of Melbourne. The question of holding a series of special meetings in the circuit for the deepening of spiritual life was discussed, and it was resolved to endeavor to secure the services of the Rev. H. B. Bray, of Hawera for the purpose, in June, if convenient to him. The circuit representatives to the conference wore thanked for their services. A discussion took place on a report from the local preachers' meeting, as to reducing services in the country places on account of the circuit doing without a third minister for the coming year. Ultimately the following alterations were agreed to: Omata, fortnightly, in afternoons; Carrington Road, monthly, in afternoons; Upland Road, monthly, in afternoons; Korito, monthly, in afternoons.
A motion was passed expressing appreciation of the work done in the circuit by Missioner P. Souster, and wishing him success in his new appointment. Motions of sympathy were passed to several members on account of sickness in their families, and with Mr. and Mrs. R. Pepperil! on account of their son having been seriously wounded in France. It was decided to hold the next quarterly meeting at Whiteley Church on July 11.
