LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY.
MEETING OF LOCAL HEAD CENTRE. A meeting of tlie North Taranaki Head Centre of the Royal Life Saving Society was held at the Soldiers' Club last night. Mr. S. G. Smith presided. Mr. P. Darling, late of Napier, was elected to fill the vacancy on the committee caused by the departure of Mr. G. Gilbert. The New Plymouth Borough Council wrote intimating that it had been decided to grant the society a subsidy of £ls for the current year.—lt was decided to send a letter* of thanks to the council. The annual report of Hie Dominion council of the society showed the following summary of awards: Wellington 515, Auckland 505, Wanganui 304, North Taranaki 182, Canterbury 134, Otago 117, Hawkes Bay 105. The allocation of the Government grants was made as follows: Auckland £lB, Wellington £l9, Wanganui £lO, North Taranaki £6, Canterbury, Otago and Hawkes Bay £5 •'each.
| The following wgre elected new members of the society: Messrs. P. Lcaland, J. Corrigal, J. Goodwin, F. Fox, P. Stainton, F. Hammond, B. Allen; E. Whittle, J. McNeill, Red Post Furnishing Co., and the J.P. Hardware Co. A committee consisting of Misses White (2), Messrs. Smith, Bullians; Bennett, Schwartz, Hughes and Mcllroy, was set dp to arrange a concept to be held at an early date for the purpose of making the presentation publicly of the cups and medals won in the schools life-saving competition, _ Messrs. Schwartz, Flanagan and Darling were added, as the society's representatives, to the Tabor Shield Committee. The Girls' High School notified it would be represented by Mr. Christensen. The following awards were made as a result of the examinations held during the past month:
