; 1 , A CRITICAL SITUATION. MASS MEETING APPLAUDS PRESIDENT WILSON'S SPEECH}, Received April 10, 6£ pjca. New York, April 9. The World's Washington correspondent says the official despatches state that a mass meeting of Czechs at Prague denounced Count Czernin and approved of President Wilson's speech. The Austrian labor situation is critical. Count Czernin has been forced to abandon his visit to Bucharest because of the country's!internal troubles.
HELFFERICH'S BOMBAST. TIRADE AGAINST ENGLAND. Zurich, April 9. Herr von Helfferich, speaking at Stuttgart, said:' "We are fighting for our life against England's political system. Wo shall conquer in the west as in the east. We must undo England's gains in the colonies, Mesopotamia, Persia, and China. We must not emerge crippled by the war, and must not be excluded from universal commerce, which is England' 3 aim." UNPRECEDENTED CASUALTIES ADMITTED. Rome, April 9. German newspapers admit 'that the casualties are heavier than in ajny previous fighting. GERMANY'S SOMBRE OUTLOOK. Copenhagen, April 9. The Vorwarts, commenting on President Wilson's speech, says: "If Germany does not finish the war 'by military means her future is in darkness. It does not look bright even if we succeed in finishing the war by the spring or summer, therefore there is no other solution than complete victory."
