A MAYOR'S RESIGNATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, April 9. At a meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council last night, Councillor McDougall called attention to a circular requesting subscriptions for a testimonial to the late borough engineer signed by tho Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) and Councillors Hobbs, Clendon, Waltou and others.
-Councillor McDougall took strong exception to the statements made in the circular, and moved: "That this council place on record its disapproval of his Worship the Mayor and Councillors Clendon, Hobbs, and Walton allowing their names to he appended to a circular soliciting funds in order to recognise the good work of the ex-borough, engineer." The Mayor said he would make no explanation; he would accept the motion a.6 a vote of censure' The motion was carried. Councillor Ward's being the only vote cast against it. The three councillors who signed the circular did not vote. The Mayor immediately tendered his resignation and vacated the o l iair.
