During the journey two Lead of stock disappeared, and these were val.ipd at .1:12 10s per head. Evidence was given by plaintiff and defendant (Muir's being heard at Palmerston North), freer, a drover, and A. \Y. Budge. The hitter's evidence was mainly in reference to the duties of a drover anil the eare required of stock whilst travelling. It was discovered that one of the beasts claimed for had since been located, and the claim was reduced to £l2 10s. Mr. Stanford applied for a non-suit, oil the ground that the loss had not teen sustained, but the S.M. decided to reserve his judgment.
GENERAL. An accident that had serious results occurred on the Skinner Road yesterday. Whilst dismounting from her horse a little girl, daughter of Mr. Mark Reynolds, had the misfortune to got one of her feet caught in the stirrup, and the horse, startled by the approach of a motor-car, moved off, dragging the rider some distance. .She was taken to the Stratford hospital and attended to by Dr. Bteven. The injuries sustained were a broken leg, above and below the knee, and a compound l'raeture of the skull. The little girl is reported to be progressing very favorably. The Taranaki Shield for marksmanship has again changed hands. The challengers, Whangamomona Rifle C'lub. succeeded in defeating the holders, Tahora, rather dJsily, the scores being 705 and 028. Farewell soeiojs seem to be the order of the day, or rather evening. At Ngaere last evening Privates J3. Fougere and C. McKenzie were presented with wristlet watches by Mr. James, who also handed to Private Tout Wilkie and Rifleman C. Callaghan illuminated addresses of.wel-' tome 011 their return from the front. Mr. W. Orr footed a Highland jjance very efficiently, while very acceptable vocal items were contributed by Messrs. A. Hart and James. Messrs. Hammond and James were the M.'sC. for the dance, and the music was supplied by Mis-s 1). "Walker (piano). S. Parker (cornet) and V/. Walsh (violin. Pijvatcs Ted Perrett, T. Morgan and J. Hotind were also farewelled at Mahoe last night. Mr. T. R. Anderson presented each man with a wristlet watch, and expressed the good wishes of all for a speedy and safe return. Songs were contributed by Mrs. Crosbie and Mr. Bidwell, while .Master Thomas contributed a recitation in true artistic manner. Miss Reilly was at the piano for the dance, which was enjoyed by all. Mr. H. Mellow, as M.C., saw that all had an enjoyable evening.
At Stanley Road sehoolhouso a f;u'ov.'cll was tendered Private Phillips. The building was packed with friends and visitors from Stratford. Mr. R. 11. Wellington presented the departing soldier with a wristlet watch, accompanied by the best of good wishes for his future. Vocal items were contributed by Misses Hatcher and Bennett, and Messrs. G. T. Walters, 3. J. Peters and Jury. Mr. Fox was accompanist, and also supplied the music for the daiiee, which was kept going till an early hour, all present voting the evening one of the best held there. ° Don't spoil that picture or photograph for want of a frame. Rather enhance its value by purchasing a photograph frame at C. E. James' fancy goods warehouse. Ho will fit all sizes so don't hesitate to make enquiries. Have you seen the Dean Haireutter. Cuts to any degree of length. Just the tiling for the soldier in the trench, and for the home.
