SHIPPING CONSTRUCTION. SPEEDING-UP MEASURES. RECORD OUTPUT EXPECTED IN APRIL. Washington, April 3Mr. Crawford Vaughan, who addressed 800 meetings of ship workers urging the speeding-up of work, continues hl» speaking tour. At Lord Reading's request Mr. Hurley, Shipping Controller, telegraphed to the heads of shipyards: "We are disappointed at the output in March and expect a record production in April Ships are absolutely necessary. Yon must work at night and all the overtime possible. America expects ships, not excuses."
The ships delivered -n March aggregate 1G8,700 tons. Arrangement* have baj n .made by the United States for an additional 250,000 tons of Japanese shipping for the transatlantic service for transporting troops and munition.
j. ANOTHER LOAN TO BRITAIN. Washington,'' April 3. The United States has made a loan to Britain of 200 million dollars. AMERICAN WHEAT SUPPLY. LARGE STOCKS IN SOUTH AMERICA WAR NEEDS BEFORE DOMESTIC LEGISLATION. New York, April 3 The Chicago visible wljeat supply is 8,942,000 bushels. The United Press Washington correspondent reports that there are 160 million bushels of wheat in South America awaiting shipment to the Allies. The State Department is negotiating with Brazil and Uruguay for the utilisation of internal German vessels for the South American trade This will release 350,000 tons of shipping for the transport of wheat to Europe. Congress will speed up the passage of Bills providing for war needs, temporarily excluding domestic legislation.
